Daylight saving’s gone north, the leaves are turning red and yellow and orange (the deciduous ones that is) and I am sitting in the gloom with my fluffy slippers on, wearing a cuddly sweatshirt and comfy tracky pants.
How did this happen!
I know…*switches light on*
That’s better.
Anyhoo, in today’s news, my good friend Ethel had some great news for me this morning. She’d been to the doctor last week with a suspicious mole on her shoulder, only to have the doctor book her in for urgent surgery for a much MORE suspicious mole on her chest (right in the dip of that valley bit in your cleavage, for those of you with a cleavage).
It was duly sliced out, and sent off to the lab for urgent analysis and the results were supposed to be back Thursday evening.
However, Whangarei’s health service being what it is, she only received them last night on her return visit to her doctor.
And it was all good news: the mole was “pre” skin cancer, and they had caught all of it well in time.
A timely reminder to get your moles mapped my friends! Sunshine has a lot to answer for – I’m not going to miss it that much.

It’s Easter Monday and a day of recovery for the residents of the Kiwifruit Homestead and Gaming Emporium after a full on weekend being hosts with mosts for our Auckland friends. It was lovely to see ‘em and it was lovely to see ‘em go!
It was Pat and Deirdre’s first time visiting, and they bought their boat with them, so it was out for a day of fishing (fresh snapper!) and diving (fresh crayfish!) yesterday for the men, while us ladies and kids took in Ruakaka Beach for some awesome bodysurfing.
The day before us ladies did a wee tiki-tour of the local galleries, taking in Parua Bay Gallery (which we can highly recommend) and the many galleries lining Whangarei’s Town Basin. It was all rather fabulous and we all spent more money than was sensible, particularly me and when the inhouse accountant finds out I’m a goner for sure.
We also had a lovely lunch at the[ Parua Bay Tavern](http://www.menumania.co.nz/restaurants/parua-bay-tavern/media/6507) overlooking the harbour and to round off the afternoon, fudge and icecream at the divine NZ Fudge Farm.
And of course, to add to the fry-ups, barbecues, wine, cheese and crackers, fresh fish, crayfish, pub grub, fudge and icecream, there were a bajillion Easter Eggs to eat too. Creme Eggs, Marshmallow Eggs, Hollow Eggs, Caramello Eggs, eggs, eggs, eggs…
My waistline has officially placed me on a one-Easter Egg-a-week diet, starting tomorrow.
